Introduction
The University of Zanjan (UZ) was originally established as an agricultural higher education institute in 1975. Today, there are 5 main faculties, namely Agriculture, Engineering, Humanities, Science, and Art and Architecture, comprising 39 departments (35 educational, and 4 research departments) with 400 full-time academic staff lecturing in 156 programs. Presently, UZ has 10000 full-time students, including 65% undergraduate, and 35% postgraduate students. UZ is committed to provide a pleasant environment for learning, and contribute to science, technology, and social development at local, national, and international levels.
Faculties
Agriculture
The Faculty of Agriculture began its educational activities in 1975-76, launching undergraduate programs in agricultural and farm management fields with 63 students and 6 full-time faculty members. Today, this faculty offers 14 programs at undergraduate levels, and 57 programs at post-graduate levels (24 Master’s and 33 PhD programs). Boasting 39 laboratories, 5 workshops, arable and permanent land farms, diary, poultry, and sheep farms for teaching and research, as well as rural areas to provide students with sufficient facilities for field studies related to agricultural extension and rural development, UZ is considered as one of the best universities for Agricultural studies. Engineering

Humanities
The Faculty of Humanities began its educational activities in 1991. Currently, this faculty has 10 departments, in which 21 BA, 32 MA, and 9 PhD programs are offered. Further information could be obtained at: https://www.znu.ac.ir/humanities/
Science

Arts and Architecture
This faculty is comprised of two separate departments. The Architecture department was established in 2000 to offer the Associate program. Currently, this department encompasses Bachelor’s, and Master’s programs. A decade later, Arts department was launched to educate candidates at Bachelorly level.
International Scientific Cooperation Management
This office has responsibility for the development of international activities ranging from developing links and partnerships with research and higher education institutes and businesses overseas, international conferences, workshops and courses, as well as managing relationships with the administrations responsible for international activities in Iranian ministries. This office offers support and expertise to academic departments through the university to encourage their staff and students to promote their international activities. Student Affairs
Accommodation through male and female student Halls, located in separate areas, providing IT services, reading rooms, gyms, restaurants, subsidized meals, mosques, and so on, as well as public transportation is provided inside the campus and between the university and the Zanjan City free of charge to both staff and students. Health Centre
The World Health Organization defines health as the science and prevention of disease, lengthening the average life of human beings and to improve physical, psychological and social health.
The health center provides wellness services for registered university students in order to support their educational goals and to develop skills for long-term healthy lifestyles. These health services include:

Cultural Life
Many cultural activities are held inside the university for students and staff through sport centers, student clubs, student scientific associations, staff associations, the Cultural Department and the Public Relation Office in order to celebrate national and religious festivals, as well as organize sport matches, training courses, workshops, trips, visits, exhibitions, meetings and so on. Many student associations are supported by the University of Zanjan in order to make necessary reviews and develop cultural and social programs of the university within the framework of assigned plans and programs. Research
Research has been defined at the top of UZ’s agenda, in which all the academic staff and the postgraduate students are involved. Statistically, over 500 papers are annually published by the university staff in the international peer-reviewed journals indexed in ISI, ISC and Scopus databases. Moreover, over 1000 papers are presented a year at international and national conferences with the affiliation of this university. The Research Deputy is in charge of facilitating research activities of the university through providing research grants to the staff and students for their research projects, paper and book publications, research equipment, conference and workshop participation, organizing international conferences at the university, membership in international and national scientific associations, sabbatical leaves, training courses, IT services, registering patents and so on. Technology Incubator of University of The University of Zanjan (ZTI)
This center was founded in 2004 to use facilities and experience of professionals and research centers in the university. University of Zanjan Observatory
The observatory of the University of Zanjan, with an area of 260 square meters, located in the far south of university was established with the help of members of the Department of Physics. This center is equipped with high-tech reflecting telescopes, photometer, digital and analog cameras.
Research Institute of Modern Biological Techniques (RIMBT)
The RIMBT, established in 2000, is a life science research institute at UZ, founded to focus mainly on applied biological research projects. The RIMBT is financially supported by the university, the Biotechnology Development Council (BDC) and research projects from other partners. It consists of such departments as Animal Science, Crop Production, Medicinal Plants, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Some new departments are also under revision.
Languages
Persian is the medium through which lectures and dissertations mainly transpire, although English is occasionally used at limited number of departments
